In this class you will get an introduction to the technique of placing knots in between beads. This technique is widely known as pearl knotting due to pearls being the primary bead this has been used for historically, but any bead can have a knot placed next to it.

In this class you will learn:

  • How to use silk and nylon for knotting
  • How to start and end a piece using clam shell bead tips.
  • How to manage your beads before and during the knotting process
  • How to properly place and tension a knot next to a bead
  • Other tips, tricks, materials, and alternative finishes

Prerequisite: None

In order to maintain a respectful and conducive learning environment for all students and instructors, students who arrive more than 15 minutes late to class will not be permitted to enter and will forfeit their class fee. This policy ensures that disruptions are minimized and that everyone can fully engage in the learning process without unnecessary interruptions. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Class Dates: Saturday, December 14th, 2024, 2:00 - 5:00pm

Materials: Please bring the following materials to the class:

  • Beads equal to 16” (choker style) or longer
  • Silk cord to match the hole size of your beads (Please pre-stretch the silk before class: see below)
    • How to Pre Stretch Silk: Tie each end of the silk to the handle of a coffee mug using a slip knot. Hang the silk over a hook or a doorframe for a min. of 12 hours or a max of 24 hours. A slip knot is important here because a standard knot will be difficult to untie after allowing the silk to stretch with the weight of the coffee mugs on it. Note: The silk that comes with a needle on the end is a little tricky to slip knot the needle side, but can be managed.
  • Clamshells bead tips (2), clasp (1), 4-6mm jump ring (1), 6-10mm jump ring (1)
  • GS Hypo-cement glue
  • Beading tweezers
  • Optional tools: Beading awl, thread clippers

All materials are available for purchase at 10% off for 2 weeks prior (after you sign up) and 1 week after the class. No further discounts.
