Simple Soldering Class

Have you always wanted to learn to solder but were afraid to use a torch? This class teaches the basics of simple soldering techniques that will start you on your way to making your own metal jewelry designs. Using a simple set up that can be easily duplicated at home, students will learn to fabricate three jewelry basics: a set of stack rings, a pendant and a pair of earrings. Upon completing these pieces, students will have the confidence to use a torch with ease and have a solid starting point to create their own designs.

Prerequisite: None.

Materials:

• A variety of metal sheet and blanks including copper, sterling silver and brass, 22 or 24-gauge (minimum: one sheet no larger than 3"x 3" or 2-3 blanks betwen ¾" to 1 ½".)
• 14-gauge sterling silver wire, 1 ft.

Materials for your projects are not included in the class fee. Please come to class prepared with the above materials and tools. Shop at our store and take advantage of your 10% student discount!

Tools Needed for Class:

• Bench block
• Chasing hammer
• Plastic or rawhide mallet
• Chain nose pliers
• Round nose pliers
• Flush wire cutters
• Flat metal file
• Metal ring mandrel
• Fine point permanent marker

Students are encouraged to bring their own tools. Soldering set ups for class use will be provided by the instructor.
