Part-Time Sales Associate

If you are a person who loves beading, loves helping others love beading and can efficiently operate a computer, you are the one we are looking for. Please keep reading!

In this job, you'll have the opportunity every day to inspire people's natural creativity in our retail bead store in Alameda. We hire friendly people who want to inspire others through their love of beading and to provide excellent customer service. The associate will also be responsible for assisting with repairs, maintaining the store space, computer work, inventory work and other behind-the-scenes tasks involved with running a retail operation.

The following is required as part of your regular work schedule:

  • Saturday or Sunday every week (6-8 hour shifts)
  • One weekday evening shift per week (minimum 4:00-7:00pm)

You'll also be needed during these events:

  • March 17-22: four or more days, to be determined
  • August 4-10; four or more days, to be determined
  • Paid staff meetings (approx. 2 hours) outside of your regular work schedule, when scheduled

Essential Qualifications:

  • Previous beading experience
  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Strong computer skills.
    - Need to operate different styles of mice with ease and speed (without a significant learning curve)
    - Previous experience with Excel, Word, and Windows platform
    - Ability to navigate quickly between open windows on a computer
    - Ability to learn new programs with a positive, can-do spirit
    - Have used computer at least 4 days a week in the past 2 years as part of your normal routine

  • Ability to stand, walk, and work on your feet in a fast paced environment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend and climb ladders in order to do floor displays, backroom activities and store maintenance

Opportunity for More Responsibilities and More Hours for More Pay

We are currently hiring the entry level position as is listed above. However, once you are up to speed in this position, and you have the skills & experience for some of the other functions at the shop, you can take responsibility for certain operational tasks for increased compensation.

In addition to helping out on the sales floor, responsibilities may include: maintaining our email list, web order fulfillment; assist with preparing purchase orders, receiving & other inventory tasks, promote classes, implement store promotions using various media, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, various websites; maintain merchandising; prepare in-store signage website maintenance; bookkeeping; perform administrative tasks; or sales management.

  • Good communications skills, written and verbal

Web Operations Associate

You'll be responsible for updating our website, identifying items to purchase, receiving shipments, creating receiving vouchers, inventory work, order fulfillment, computer work, class logistics, creating marketing emails, posting on social networks, and other behind-the-scenes tasks involved with running a thriving retail operation. If you have the following qualifications, we'd love to talk to you.


  • Strong computer skills:
    • Fluency using Excel, including experience with:
      • Sorting
      • Creating formulas
      • Dragging formulas across multiple cells
      • Formatting cells
      • Selecting print areas
    • Experience with Windows platform
    • Ability to navigate quickly between open windows on a computer
    • Ability to learn new programs quickly with a positive, can-do spirit
    • Ability to operate different styles of mice with ease and speed (without a significant learning curve)
  • Good writing skills for customer service emails
  • Good math skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work efficiently, thoroughly, and quickly, while observing attention to detail
  • Ability to work both individually and harmoniously within a team

These Qualifications are a plus:

  • Familiarity with Dreamweaver and/or html
  • Ability to modify pictures with Photoshop, Corel, or comparable program
  • Experience posting on social networks, including Facebook, twitter, pinterest
  • Previous beading experience

This position would start with a 4-6 hour shift one weekday per week as part of your regular work schedule.. With additional experience, the position is likely to grow into additional hours. Opportunity for additional responsibilities, compensation, and full time work in the future exist.
