Part-Time Sales Associate

If you are a person who loves beading, loves helping others love beading and can efficiently operate a computer, you are the one we are looking for. Please keep reading!

In this job, you'll have the opportunity every day to inspire people's natural creativity in our retail bead store in Alameda. We hire friendly people who want to inspire others through their love of beading and to provide excellent customer service. The associate will also be responsible for filling web orders, maintaining the store space, computer work, inventory work and other behind-the-scenes tasks involved with running a retail operation.

The following is required as part of your regular work schedule:

At least 12 hours per week
One weekend day every week (6-8 hour shifts)
One to two weekday evening shifts per week (minimum 4:00-7:30pm, sometimes later)

You'll also be needed during these events:

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during Oakland bead shows where we are selling. This includes the Northern California Bead Bazaar in the spring and the Bay Area Bead Extravaganza in November.
Thanksgiving weekend: two out of the three days - Fri, Sat, Sun
One weekend day every weekend in December
One-two evenings per week in December sometimes until 9:30 pm, especially the week before Christmas
Attend monthly paid staff meetings (approx. 2 hours) outside of your regular work schedule.

Essential Qualifications:

Previous beading experience
Friendly, outgoing personality
Strong computer skills.
- Need to operate different styles of mice with ease and speed (without a significant learning curve)
- Previous experience with Excel, Word, and Windows platform
- Ability to navigate quickly between open windows on a computer
- Ability to learn new programs with a positive, can-do spirit
- Have used computer at least 4 days a week in the past 2 years as part of your normal routine

Strong work ethic
Detail-oriented
Ability to stand, walk, and work on your feet in a fast paced environment for extended periods of time
Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend and climb ladders in order to do floor displays, backroom activities and store maintenance
Professional appearance
Able to work harmoniously within a team
Tendency to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Compensation including commission ranges from $10 - $12/hour.

If you have the skills & experience, you can be responsible for certain operational tasks for increased compensation

In addition to helping out on the sales floor, responsibilities may include: oversee web order fulfillment; assist with preparing purchase orders, receiving & other inventory tasks, implement store promotions using various media, including Facebook, Twitter, various websites; maintain merchandising; prepare in-store signage website maintenance; bookkeeping; perform administrative tasks; or sales management.
