Etruscan Caterpillar Class


This linked bracelet is a variation on the Egyptian Chain, an ancient wire design technique from the Etruscan period, around the 7th century BCE. Students will learn to create swirled links around round beads, then connect the links to form the caterpillar pattern.

What you will learn:
  • Create swirled links around round beads
  • Connect the links
  • Make a J-hook clasp.
Prerequisite: None

  • 16g dead soft sterling silver, silver-filled, or gold-filled wire for the basic design
  • 18g dead soft sterling silver, silver-filled, or gold-filled wire for the clasp
  • 20g, 22g, or 24g wire (small enough to fit into beads)
  • 6mm round beads of your choice
  • Additional seed beads or small beads for accents
  • Chain nose pliers
  • Wire gauge
  • Marginless ruler
  • 5/16" dowel rod
  • Safety glasses
Please come to class with the tools and materials listed above. Choosing your materials and designing your jewelry is part of the class. Materials for your project are not included in the class fee. You may choose from our large selection or bring your own. At the end of class you will pay for the materials you used for your project.
